How to Get a Job after College Graduation in 2014: 7 tips for recent college grads from Mike Fuljenz

1. Stay out of debt and keep an eye on your credit score. Scores below 600 are problematic and may keep you from getting a job should a potential employer require a credit check during the hiring process.

2. Good grades in the field you would like to work in are essential. Keep at least a B average.

3. Having fun in college for some includes using drugs and alcohol. Be careful. A DUI conviction can keep you out of the running for your dream job.

4. Clean up your social postings. Potential employers will check your profiles on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to get an idea of what you are like during your off time. Update your Facebook privacy settings so only friends can see your posts. Make sure your profile photos are professional.

5. Have at least two professional business suits available to wear for multiple interviews at the same company. Fuljenz recommends “…invest $500 in two suits – one gray, the other navy blue – at one of these “two for one” suit stores.”

6. Take out those excess piercings and cover up your tattoos if possible. No facial piercings during an interview.

7. Volunteer in the field in which you are interested in working. Actual experience in your field can help you stand out from the other well-qualified candidates for the job.
